Acts 9 begins with stating that Saul (who we now call Paul) was still very much a persecutor of the church. Acts 9:1 “Saul was breathing murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples.”
On his way to Damascus however, Saul was met by none other but Jesus. This is the same Jesus that Saul was persecuting the believers of. During his encounter with Jesus, Saul is directed to become a follower of Jesus Christ.
This story really convicted me the other day. To often I have to attitude that Jesus is only for those who have it all together. But clearly that is not the Jesus that is depicted in the Bible. Saul was living deeply in sin and was killing those who claimed to be Christians and followed Jesus. However, Jesus still called Saul to do his work despite all the evil he had done. We must remember that Jesus will meet us right where we are at. Even when our lives are full of sin Jesus can meet us there. However, when Jesus does meet us, that is when we are faced with a choice. We can either go back to living our lives in sin and reject Jesus, or we can throw all of that away and follow Jesus. The Choice is ours.
